After almost 24 hours of implementing my new diet, things have not been going so well. I lessened my rice intake to one cup per meal and I didn’t have any sodas and junk foods. Mind you, it was not easy. I had to undergo a lot of mental struggles just to convince myself not to get more rice from the kaldero and I was actually winning… or so I thought I was.

It was late in the afternoon when I was snuggling up on my bed trying to get some shut eye when my ID (Freud) took over. My body was moving on its own. I stood up from bed, wore my shirt, got my wallet and went directly to Vivian’s store, the sari-sari store near my house. The tindera then asked me, "unsay imo?" My mouth opened and the words "Isa ka Chippy na red kanang dako ug isa ka sprite palihug" came out. My left hand took out my wallet, got 50 petot and paid the tindera. Then my eyes narrowed down on the label that read "Tear Here" and in an instant my hands grabbed the top lid and opened the Chippy. The right hand went inside the opened Chippy and dug like it has just found gold. It took 3 to 4 pieces of chips and offered it to my mouth which delightfully welcomed them by opening itself wide.

chippy

Halfway through finishing the Chippy, I regained control over my body. My throat felt so parched and thirsty. And because of this, I had to drink the sprite that my ID bought. And since it would be such a waste not to finish the remaining pieces of chips, I ate them. Hay…

And since I have already failed on day #1, I allowed myself to eat chocolate moist cake, eat lechon and drink more sodas =( I hope this will never happen again… =(

Cup of RiceSince I still don’t have the resources to go with my friends to the gym, I thought of other ways on how to go about my quest to lose weight that doesn’t involve money. On top of the list is changing my diet.

If Sesame Street has the Cookie Monster, Alpha Homes also has the Rice Monster - me. A meal doesn’t feel like a meal without this. Even if I’ve eaten a full burger meal at McDonald’s or whatever burger food chain, it just feels inadequate. I still seek for the aroma, texture and the taste of rice.

Unfortunately, rice is one of the main culprits that makes people gain weight. So for my first move, I’ll try to, if not eliminate, at least minimize my intake of rice. A cup (measuring unit) of rice a meal will maybe do the trick. I guess this would also mean that I won’t be going to establishments that serve unlimited rice anymore… bye bye Banok’s, bye bye Penong’s, buy buy buffet… =(

Other than rice, I’ll also TRY to stay away from fattening foods such as sweets (chocolates, cakes, etc.) and sodas (Coke, Pepsi, Pop, Sprite and the lot). Hay…  I hope this works…~♪

timbangMar08The image that you see there is not the speedometer of a car running at 86 miles per hour. Folks, I would like to introduce to you the weighing scale and the value it’s projecting when I’m stepping on it. Yes, that is a weighing scale and no, it is not in pounds - it’s in kilograms.

I have gained yet another 6 kilograms in the last 6 months - that’s 1 kilo every month. This, of course, did not come to me as a surprise. I expected to gain more weight especially with my daily routine. A breakdown of my daily routine goes roughly like this: wake up in the morning, eat breakfast, sleep, wake up, eat lunch, sleep, wake up, eat dinner, sleep, rinse and repeat. Once in a while I insert a few activities in between but these activities usually still involve eating and drinking (e.g. Double Celebration, Birthday, Banok’s, Night Out, Mishel’s Celebration).

For the past 4 years, it has always been my New Year’s resolution that I would do my best to lose weight. Yet every year the opposite always happens. Last December, I tried going with Kim and Sean to the gym. I did not lift weights and stuff but I joined them during grappling practice. The workout it gives the body was really great cause it makes you use all of your muscles and the movements make you sweat A LOT. Unfortunately after two sessions, I had to stop due to financial restraints (can’t afford the session fee, can’t afford the membership fee). This was the time when my current daily routine started which somehow led me to my predicament.

But now, seeing those numbers on the weighing scale gave me more determination to lose weight. It’s not just about losing the stomach bulge or the love handles anymore. It’s also about my health.

The day this entry gets posted is the day my quest to lose weight starts. This will be my quest # 1 for the year 2008. Every week, I will be posting updates on my weight. And as proof, I will be posting pictures of that same weighing scale hopefully with the numbers decreasing. Wish me luck!~♫

3As expected, a lot of people were there to celebrate with Mishel. Among these people were loved ones, relatives, friends and even strangers who, just like me, want a piece of the lechon baboy ^_^

Despite the number of people gathered to celebrate, only 10% - 15% of them are the actual visitors of Mishel. The remaining 85% - 90% are acquaintances or friends of her parents. I have observed for the last 3 years that this has been the trend in their household every time Mishel and her brother Cocoy celebrate for something.

Fortunately I, together with other friends, were given special treatment. We were Continue reading »

It’s 5:45 PM and I’m ready to go to Mishel’s house for her thanksgiving party. So expect to see a full post about the event in the next few days. Lechon! Here I come! ^_^

Other than the Double Celebration, I haven’t been out with friends/ classmates to celebrate. Last Saturday however, a few friends gave an invite to hang out. And given that I had the time and a so-so amount of money, I went.

We agreed to meet at 8pm so I started preparing around 7. One thing I forgot about these people though is that they were actually in a totally different Time Zone. I’m not quite sure but I think they’re on GMT -01:00. When they say it’s 8pm, it’s actually 9pm GMT (Gigoy Mean Time). So I was all ready an hour before the agreed time.

Dee & Didai

We all met up at Torres. Supposedly we were to go to Jikong’s but as expected, it was fully packed given that it’s a Saturday night. Fortunately, Ocon has tried out this place just a few meters from Jikong’s - I think it was called Pista Lokal. He had a lot of great things to say about the place so we decided to stay there.

This post is long overdue. On the day of our PRC adventure, we went to Banok’s to eat our lunch. Riza and I insisted that Mishel treat us to lunch. Why? It just so happened that her rating on the board exam was very high. I think with just a little nudge, she would have made it to the top 10 - just add a few ity-bity points. Anyway, with my powers of persuasion and Riza’s techniques (2 vs 1), Mishel gave in. We were not sure yet where to go. But the idea of unlimited rice hit us and Banok’s was the first place that came to our minds. We also have been craving to taste their lechon manok for quite some time now. So off we went to Banok’s.

Here are our Banok’s moments

We were advised to get our board ratings directly from the PRC office rather than to wait for them in the mail. It was around 10 am and the office was already filled with people. We (Riza, Mishel and me) got our priority numbers from the guard - #88, #89, and #90. Having no idea what to do next, we roamed around the office looking for some familiar faces who might be able to guide us on what to do. I saw Mayang, a classmate of ours, inside room #10. She told us that all we have to do is wait for our numbers to come up on the Continue reading »

March 4, 2008 - 5 pm

I was already in the realm of morpheus waiting for the clock to strike 12:01 am March 05, 2008. I so wanted the day to just end. I already had my fill of happiness during the day.

I was happily playing in dreamland when all of a sudden I felt something unexplainable. There was someone or something here with me. I can feel that the air in the room got denser. I suddenly rose from bed and there on the door I saw a light… three lights actually. It was the three lit up candles on top of a chocolate cake and Mishel was holding it.

March 4, 2008 - 12 noon

Seemed to me like it’s just going to be another one of those lazy days that I’ve been experiencing for the last few weeks. Woke up at almost 12 noon, I checked my phone to see whether there were any messages and there were - a whole bunch of ‘em actually. I wanted to reply “thank you” and all of that but the mere fact that I only had P0.50 as my remaining balance made it really quite impossible.
