I just recently got one of my old computer rigs back. It has a P4 2.0 GHz processor, 384 MB RAM, 40 GB HD, and 256 MB VCard. Getting bored with the Windows XP Operating System, I decided to go back with Mac. I was using OS X Tiger on this rig a year ago before my mum took it and I thought, what the heck, why not use OS X again?
I did what needs to be done and in 30 minutes my computer was already running OS X. The process is not really that difficult especially if you have done it before. I remembered the first time I did it, it took me almost 3 hours just to get the basic functions up.
I encountered a problem with this new installation though. It would not recognize my built-in NIC so I had to get a copy of its drivers for OS X. To make things worse, it wouldn’t recognize any USB device thus rendering my flash disks useless. A little bit of ingenuity here and there, I was able to install the NIC drivers and had my Internet up and running in no time.
I downloaded all the software I usually use in Windows and voila! Everything is A-OK.
What I really like about this operating system is its graphical user interface. Aside from the fact that it’s really easy to use, the look of the OS X GUI is really an eye candy.
As of now, I am not experiencing any problems using OS X. I’ll try test running it for at least a week. If my 384 MB RAM could hold up when I use Crossover to run Windows applications, I might stick with it for quite a long time. But if it doesn’t, I might just go back to Windows XP.
